Winter
by Dorothy Aldis
The street cars are like frosted cakes --
All covered up with cold snowflakes.
The horses' hoofs scrunch on the street;
Their eyelashes are white with sleet.
And everywhere the people go --
With faces tickled by the snow.
PUBLIC HOLIDAY –please remember Monday 13th June is Queen’s Birthday public holiday, and therefore our Centre will be closed.
CONGRATULATIONS - Congratulations to Camila, Tim and Harry on the birth of their new baby girl, Ella Louise.
Also Congratulations to Tristen’s family, another baby boy!!! Zeke weighing 8pd 4 oz.
WELCOME – Welcome to our newest staff member, Sarah Wilmot. Sarah will be working as Assistant and also Relief Group Leader. Sarah has a Certificate III in Children’s Services, and is currently studying her Diploma.
NEW CHILDREN - we would like to extend a warm welcome to all our new children in our Centre:
· Josephine in Pre-School
· Jessica, Lilly and Monique in Toddlers
· Ryan in Nursery
· Isaac in Pre-School
DRESS-UP DAY - Tuesday 31st May we held our Farm Dress-Up Day. Thanks to everyone who dressed up - the children looked very cute. Thank you so much to Indiah and her Mum for bringing in the ‘naked neck bantams’, they were gorgeous. Thank you to Trey’s family for letting us have Isabel the very friendly goat. And thank you to Madison & Kynan’s family for bringing in the baby lambs (and the nanny!!!!). The children (well, most of the children), just loved the animals….some of them maybe a bit too much!!!!! It was good to see the children so interested and gentle with the animals.
Please !!!!! NAME YOUR PROPERTY – could you please double check your child’s property to ensure it is all named before coming into the Centre. The Nursery and Toddlers Room in particular has many milk and water bottles (and lids) that are not named. This makes it very hard at times for our staff to try and remember which bottle belongs to which child. Please also name dummies, hats, lunch boxes, jumpers…the lot !!!. Thank You.
UPCOMING EVENTS in JUNE

On Monday 6th June, the Ambulance came to Country Kids! Andrew & Holly did a great job talking with the children and answering their questions. They let them walk through the ambulance and sit in the chair. The children loved it. A huge thank you to Andrew & Holly and the Ambulance Station for allowing the visit.
June 14th to 17th will be Thailand Week.
During this week, we’ll be experiencing some Thai culture, their language and we’ll even try some Thai style meals.
Hello - Sah-wah-dee
RED NOSE DAY - June 24th. We have downloaded a colouring competition from the Red Nose Day Website for the children to colour. We are asking that parents donate 50c per child to enter the colouring competition, and this money will then be donated to SIDS. We will give a prize to one child from each of our rooms for their colouring! Please also notice our box of Red Nose Day products for sale at the front office. All money goes to SIDS. This is a great cause, please support it if you can.
POLICE VISIT – On Thursday 9th June, we were lucky enough to have a second visit from Constable Ellis from Stanthorpe Police Station. Constable Ellis talked to the children about ‘personal safety’. He told the children what they should do if they don’t feel safe, who they should tell, and phone numbers they could call. This is all extremely important information for the children, and we thank Constable Ellis for doing such a great job with the children!
FOOD
Sheryl is doing a fantastic job in the kitchen, keeping all the children fed well. General favourites at the moment are sausages, and pancakes (not at the same time though!!). If you have any suggestions for any meals, we are always more than happy to hear them, and we’ll always try to accommodate any requests or suggestions.
We are going to start having a ‘4.30 pm’ snack each afternoon for the children who stay late at the Centre. It will be savoury biscuits or crackers or something similar (nothing sweet). Just something small to tide the children over till dinner time.
ROOM PHOTOS - We have started to plan for 2011 class photos. We are going to be doing these ourselves this year. We’ll let you know the details soon!
WATER BOTTLES – We are going to begin doing an automatic check of each child’s water bottle at rest time each day. If your child has finished their water or it is very low, we will top it up and then put a sticker on the bottle so that you know that they have drunk one bottle and are on to their second.
