May 2011 Newsletter

W E L C O M E ………….IT’S SOOOOOOOO COLD !!!!!!!!!!

Well, winter has certainly arrived a little early, and we’re all feeling it!!!    Please remember to dress your child warmer for these cold days we’re having at the moment.  The children will now probably be spending a little less time outside in the mornings and evenings now that the weather has changed.

NUT REMINDER – parents please remember we are a NUT FREE CENTRE.    Could you please refrain from packing anything that may contain nuts in your child’s lunchbox.   We thank you for your co-operation! - This means no peanut butter/paste, muesli bars with nuts, nutella etc

NAME YOUR PROPERTY – could you please double check your child’s property to ensure it is all named before coming into the Centre.   The Toddlers Room in particular has many milk and water bottles (and lids) that are not named.  This makes it very hard at times for our staff to try and remember which bottle belongs to which child.   Please also name dummies, hats, lunch boxes, jumpers….everything!!!.   Thank You.

MOTHERS DAY - thank you to all the Mums who came to share Morning Tea with us last Friday.  It was so nice to see you here!   We hope you enjoyed your morning tea lovingly prepared by Sheryl.

NEW CHILDREN - we would like to extend a warm welcome to all our new children in our Centre:

·      Leia and Alicia in Pre-School

·      Max and Arabella in Toddlers

·      Gabriel in Senior Kindy

·      Tyler in Nursery

POLICE CAR VISIT - last week Miss Melinda organized a visit from Jess & Sam’s Dad, Constable Jim.   He was kind enough to give up his own time to bring his police car into the Centre to show the children.   He also read the Pre-School children ‘The Three Little Pigs’.  The children all got a chance to climb inside the car and even talk into the loudspeaker…… Thank You So Much Constable Jim!!!!

VEGE GARDEN – our vegetable garden has been growing furiously!    Our cook, Sheryl, has been using the produce from the garden in the children’s meals.   We have had pumpkins, tomatoes, corn, lettuce, silverbeet.   Brian is now preparing the garden for a winter crop.   Would anyone have any winter vegetables that we could plant?

News from the Rooms

Platypus Pre-School – Kindergarten – The Pre-Schoolers enjoyed having Miss Katrina over the Easter break!  We made our own hats for the Easter Hat Parade.   We’ve been role playing ‘community helpers’ such as police, dentists, nurses etc.  A highlight has definitely been the policeman and police car visit last week.  Our class goal at the moment is to persevere with challenging activities such as putting on our own art smock, shoes & socks, and also to make our own beds.   We’re learning to do things for ourselves, and also to try to help our friends when they need it.  Parents – could you please remember Scrapbooks please!!

Kookaburra Kindy – our children have been working hard on shapes lately.   We’ve been doing shape painting, and puzzles, and when we read books we’re looking at pictures that have certain shapes in them.   Also lots of singing and games!

Joey Jnr Kindy we are doing lots of sensory craft such as shave foam painting, finger painting and aboriginal dot paintings!  We’re also still learning our colours, and also how to sit on the carpets with our legs crossed!!!

Tree Frog Toddlers – we have been having a bit of a Jungle Theme in our room lately.   The children have been doing lots of texture painting, including car track painting, and rice glue collage.   We’ve also started to look at counting numbers, and enjoyed reading the counting book.

 From the office

Please remember that all booked in days are payable, whether your child attends the Centre or not, this also includes public holidays.  Also, if your child is away for the day, could you please ensure that you sign your name on these days?  Thanks for your co-operation.

Our brand new Country Kids hats are for sale for $12 each from the office.

We do still have some availability in rooms on some days; so if you would like to increase your child’s days here at the Centre, please talk to Jodi, Mel or Brian in the office.

New closing time - from the 30th May 2011 our Centre will be closing at 6:00pm because of winter being dark and very very cold.  (This will also assist parents with 5 day bookings, reducing the 5th day fees). Therefore we will be open from 6:30am to 6:00pm from the 30th May 2011.

Immunisations

If your child has had an immunization lately, could you please give a copy of this immunization to us, as we need to ensure that all immunisations are up to date.   Thank you for your co-operation.
